Pelican Birthday Card

Good Morning!

This weeks theme at SweetSassyDiva is the beach! My husband and I have a small place on a small lake, so our summer is filled with fishing. Ok, he fishes ~ I mostly throw a line in and then read or play on my gypsy and take pictures! The lake we fish at is, like most lakes, surrounded by cattails and has a lot of pelicans and seagulls and one small beach. When I heard the theme was beach I immediately thought seagulls and pelicans. lol My husband's birthday is coming up this week so I decided to combine both and make him a card.

For the tag I used a spellbinders die. Everything else was cut from Life is a Beach. The cattails were cut @ 2 and 3, the pelican was cut @ 3 and the water was cut @ .75. I just used the inside of the water cut. I also only used a tiny bit of crystal stickles.

A sketch from Pam

Good Morning!

The last few days I've been working on design team projects. While looking around for a new idea, I stopped by Pam's Blog, The Bugbytes . She had the most inspiring sketch!! The minute I seen it ideas started forming and I actually got excited about it. I could've used her sketch for one of my DT posts, but I didn't want to wait. lol I'm hoping Pam makes more sketches! This is the first sketch I've ever used.

Almost everything on my LO came from Kate's ABCs and a few things from George. It was fun to make all the cuts for this LO... it was also the first time I've used Kate's ABCs. {If your interested in sizes, e-mail me and I will send you my DS or gypsy file.}

{Click on the image for a closer look}

I have to look for it, but I have the most adorable picture of my daughter (22) and my niece (21) when they were little. They were having a "girls night out" at Grandma's house, which always included shopping and playing dress up. The picture I'm thinking of is with them both in curlers and wearing my sisters prom dress and one of her bride's maid dresses. I think they girls were around 5 or 6 at the time. This one will go in a frame on my craft room wall.

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!!

It's official, I'm now a SSD Design Team Member

SweetSassyDiva has announced the Design Team members here! I've been posting over there for a while now, but she talked me into actually joining her Design Team. The ladies who won are so very talented. I hope I can keep up with them! :) Congratulations to all who won the DT!! I hope you stop over at SSD and check out their work!

I made a trip to Michael's today...

You would think that I would learn to stay out of that store! lol I went for tape for my atg, but they were out of stock. I walked around the store with the intention of getting ideas, but I left with more than that. I picked up a pack of K&Company paper, Abrianna. (Click on the picture to make it larger)
I love paper where the LO's or cards almost make themselves. This paper is so pretty.

I also picked up some flowers by Recollections that were on clearance and some of the gems in flourishes that were 40% off. I was surprised, but I walked out spending less than $20.
This is what I mean by the LO's making themselves.
These flowers were $1.99 and I only used a half of the package. :)
Thanks for looking.

Spring! ACY & Flower Soft

Good Morning!
Sweet Sassy Diva asked her DT use a kite as their theme for this week. While I'm not a DT member, I do play along when I can. :)

I started off with with the girl and kite shadow from A Child's Year cut @ 4.75 in purple and the regular cut at the same size in pink.

I didn't want the rope of the kite done in paper, so I cut it off both images.

I took some twine and put it where the paper had been. I taped it on the back so it would stay in place and "shredded" the tail end of it.

I cut a solid color at 4 X 5.25 and the patterned paper just a hair under that size. I added "spring" colored flower soft to the bottom. (My husband bought me a flower soft kit for Mother's Day and this is my first time using it.)

On the kite I used Crystal and Glam Pink Stickles to add some interest. (Sorry for the bad picture!)

I glued everything but the twine down.

The bottom piece of my easel card was cut @ 3 X 4 and the patterned paper just a hair smaller. Spring was cut @ 1.25 from the Easter 2010 cartridge with the shadow. I added Pink Glam and Yellow stickles along with Viva Decor Violet pearl pen. I added 4 blue gems to the top to hold up the easel card.

The easel base was cut @ 4.25 X 11 in light purple.

Paper Wishes Pyramid papers

Good Morning!

In my Paper Wishes order I also bought Iris, Peony & Wildflowers Pyramid Paper Tole and Purple Flowers Pyramid paper tole. Using the 2 paper packs I mentioned in my last post I made the following cards. Typically they come with 5 or 6 pieces you stack together like on these two cards.

Personally I think 5 or 6 is too much. Even when you use the thinnest pop dots they are still too high and are hard to mail. I discovered (IMO) that using 2 or 3 is more than enough. I like how they turned out and getting 2 for the price of 1 is always great! :)

I also made some cards with left over flowers from another company. The paper in these cards are also from Paper Wishes.

Patterned paper cards

I was so excited to get my order from Paper Wishes . The first paper pack I used from my order is called Enchanted.

I made 11 different cards from 3 sheets of patterned paper. I love the floral and swirls in this pack! I just made basic cards so I can use them for any occasion.

The next pack I ordered was called Nonna’s Garden.

I love the roses!! This paper is so pretty. I’ve only made 4 cards out of 3 sheets of the patterned paper. I have quite a bit of scraps left from this paper. My style isn’t usually to use so many different sheets of paper, so this was more of a challenge for me, but I love how (most of them) turned out.

I made 2 of this card since it was my favorite.

I also really liked this one.

I didn’t like this one, but wasn’t sure till it was all put together. Lol

Have a great day!

Ribbon Flower

Good Morning!

The other day I was looking at Details by Sandy's blog and seen her ribbon flower post. Since I have no shortage of ribbon I decided to try it. Some of my wired ribbons were too firm to do this with, but the lighter weight ribbon worked great! (Unlike Sandy's flowers, I only used one piece of ribbon.)

I started out with a 12 inch piece of light weight ribbon

Since my fingers don't work like they use to, I used my craft tweezers to grab hold of the wire on one side

and gathered the ribbon,

then I did the same thing to the other side.

Once I had both sides gathered the way I wanted them, I twisted the two wires together and cut off the excess wire.

Then I took the other side of the ribbon and did the same thing.

I punched out a 1 inch circle and hot glued it inside the flower. (A larger circle would have worked better if I had a larger punch lol)

I added double sided tape to the paper circle so I could attach it to my project.

To finish up the flower, I took two buttons and hot glued them to the top of the flower.

Liebster Blog Award

The Liebster Blog award is given to bring newer blogs into the light.
Thank you Cassandra for thinking of me! It's a great way to share blogs that might not otherwise have been noticed and should be! As recipient you must share the love and pass it along to others, as well as these four things:

1. You must post on your blog and tell a little about the award and
announce your 3-5 picks.
2. Let those know you have chosen them.
3. Copy and post the award on your blog for all to see.
4. Have fun and continue to inspire

The 3 recipients I have chosen for this award are, in no particular order...
1) Scrappers Anonymous
2) Ms Mara's Crafty Stuff
3) Just doin' what I LOVE

Love You Card

I love the Lori's Garden cartridge. I've been wanting to use this cut, found on page 22. Since Mother's Day is Sunday I decided it was the perfect cut for my card. Using my imagine I cut this @ 3.1. I couldn't decide between stickles and glossy accents, so I used both! I tried it different ways, using the glossy accents first with stickles on top and using stickles first and glossy accents on top. I think I prefer stickles first, but I think letting it dry first might work better. I used a martha stewart border punch, 2 inches wide with a 1 inch pink strip that I embossed in the center.

I've seen another card just like this, but I can't remember where. Once I find it, I'll add the link here. Although I've done several cards with this type of design and I have wanted to use this cut for awhile now, the idea was done by someone else first! :) She did a beautiful card, so I'll try to find it later on!

The stickles dried move before I added glossy accents in this last picture.

TFL!
